ice skating

Have you ever went skating with a two-year-old? No, this is not a joke I’m really asking. IT IS HARD. Especially when your toddler thinks she is Nancy Kerrigan and wants to take off on the ice with no assistance (insert palm to face emoji here). I am only bringing this up because the girls and I recently went to ICE at Santa Monica and, minus the tiny Kerrigan situation, we actually had a great time!

So what is ICE at Santa Monica?

Well, I’m sure most of you can guess. But ICE is a pop-up ice skating rink located in the heart of Downtown Santa Monica. Every year around the holidays the city of Santa Monica host a variety of holiday festivities and ICE just so happens to be one of them.

Located on Fifth Street and Arizona Avenue, this 8,000 square-foot open-air rink welcomes guests to skate under the stars from November 3, 2018 through January 21, 2019. With lights and festive music blaring, it is the perfect way to get into the holiday spirit. Whether you want to just skate with your friends or need a lesson or two, ICE has you covered. ICE also make hosting a party easy with cabana rentals and catering options as well.

While you skate it’s almost a given you’ll sure to work up and appetite (see our little snack break below). Luckily, ICE at Santa Monica has all the snack and food options you’ll ever need! From ice cream to popcorn, coffee, fries, nachos, and even tacos no need to worry if you get a case of the munchies between skating breaks.

Wait, the holiday festivities do not stop there. Downtown Santa Monica’s Winterlit program has a variety of other holiday-themed activities if ice skating is not your thing.

One of the newest and surely to be it’s most popular feature is the Merry and Bright light show on the Third Street Promenade. Thousands of dazzling lights are synchronized to festive music accompanied by a neon light show and falling “snow.” Each block has its own unique light elements which are showcased daily, every half hour from 5pm-10pm.
