This post should have been published a lot sooner but for various reasons (which I will soon explain) I am just now getting around to it. Honestly, I debated writing this post at all but now, in a sense, I  find it therapeutic. 2017 was filled with a lot of ups and downs and was one of the most difficult years for me.  But after going through all the photos from this past year and reliving some memories, I felt it important to share. Nowadays, especially with social media, it’s easy to think that everyone has their life together. But in reality that isn’t always the truth. Case and point: my life. Yes, I am very fortunate and have so many things to be thankful for but my life is far from perfect. And you know what? That’s okay.  And while I enjoy sharing the fun and exciting moments in my life I feel it also necessary to talk about the not so good times.

So with that being said, here are all the ups and downs of 2017…

I started 2017 on a really high note with the celebration of little Holland’s First Birthday.  This was the first time I planned a larger party and while I had fun doing it, it sure turned out to be a lot of work. Luckily, everything came together and the party was a total success. To relive the day Holland turned one, just click here!

But the celebrations did not stop there. In February Holland finally decided to start walking and soon after that, I turned 28. For my own birthday celebration, I decided to keep it simple with brunch and a day exploring Downtown LA. That month we also celebrated a new addition to the family! The girls and I welcomed another cousin to the family!

After back-to-back birthdays, this month was a little slower but exciting nonetheless. It was during this month that I received my very first invitation to collaborate as a blogger by working with JORD watches. At the time, considering I had just really started my blogging journey, it was such a big deal to land something like this. Even though now my whole thought of promoting for free has changed, it was such a valuable experience as a newbie blogger.

The lull in birthday celebrations did not long because in April my little Hayden turned six years old! Since her birthday fell on the Monday before Easter, we decided to have a small Easter themed birthday with just family. To surprise Hayden, I decked out the kitchen table with decorations, treats, and presents so when she woke up she was completely surprised. The rest of the day consisted of coloring eggs, eating tons of sweets, opening gifts and ended with a huge egg hunt at the park with the rest of the family.

In true spring fashion, we celebrated the start of baseball season by taking Holland to her first Dodger game. We also learned that, yet again, we were expecting a new cousin!

In June we were all looking forward to the start of a busy summer. Hayden finished her first year of school and gymnastics and I helped my cousin celebrate her upcoming wedding.

July was one of the busiest month of the year for us all. At the beginning of June, we spent a well deserved Sunday stuffing our face at Smorgasburg LA and I received a few more opportunities as a blogger. The first involved a trip to the California Science Center and the second I was featured in Mommy in LA Magazine! Which is still one of the coolest things that has happened thus far.

The rest of the month was just one big vacation. For almost two weeks we were poolside playing games and watching movies in Palm Desert. Then this momma had some adult fun in Las Vegas celebrating my cousin’s bachelorette party.

While July was tons of fun, August did not disappoint. Again, I received another amazing opportunity as a blogger by getting the chance to work with PinkBlush. Not only was a dream of mine as a mommy blogger but also as a young girl. Growing up I had always wanted to model and thanks to blogging that became a reality! From doing an actual shoot to being published on their site, it was such a surreal experience which I will always be thankful for. Especially since it has lead to even more opportunities with this wonderful company (here, here, here, and here.)

Along with amazing opportunities, August was filled with tons of fun activities. We visited the OC Fair, snagged coveted tickets to the Museum of Ice Cream, and finally celebrated the wedding of my cousin!

As the festivities of summer came to a close we were able to squeeze in one more last trip. So before Hayden started 1st grade at her new school we went to visit my nana in Las Vegas.

While summer 2017 was filled with so much fun and excitement fall and winter would prove to be filled with more somber moments…

In the month of October, for various reasons, I decided it was time to get my own place and become financially independent. While I truly wish things could be different it was something that just had to be done. Am I struggling emotionally, mentally, and physically? EVERY. DAMN. DAY. But do I regret this decision? Absolutely not. While it pains me to have my family split it definitely has shown me just how strong as a mother and woman I really am. So for that, I am grateful.

As if having all that wasn’t difficult enough, I learned in November that my grandma had fallen ill and was admitted to the hospital. Over the next month, I spent every day I that could visiting her.  During this time I was lucky enough to share some words with her and express just how much I loved her but we all knew she was fading away.

Just a little over a month after being admitted to the hospital and just a week after her 79th birthday, my grandma quietly passed away in her home surrounded by her family.

With her passing, I felt a range of emotions I never thought possible. I felt sad, depressed, upset, but also relieved. We had watched her suffer for so long that in the end, I was glad all her pain was gone. We all miss her dearly but I am thankful for all the wonderful memories she has left me, the love and support she always showed me, but most of all the love and time she shared with her two great-grandchildren.

With 2017 behind me I am looking forward to lots of change, happiness, and memories.

I would really love to travel a lot more this year, take the kids on a camping trip or two, get our new place in order, celebrate my last year of being in my 20’s, read a few good books, throw Hayden a fantastic birthday party, and totally buckle down on this whole blogging thing.

Excited for everything that is to come and I am just hoping 2018 is good to us.

Cheers to the new year!
